The idea behind London Imperial's intranet based medical lectures is to use experienced broadcast journalists to conduct one-to-one radio interviews with medical lecturers; the programmes are then edited and uploaded to the college intranet.
Students log-in to the lectures in their own time - from literally anywhere where there is access to a computer. The lectures can also be downloaded and transferred to CDs or an MP3 player.
The interviews are conducted in a BBC Radio 4 / Five Live style. They are informative, relaxed and engaging.
Add video clips to the mix and these web-based lectures become a powerful tool in demonstrating complex medical material.
This is a test and demonstration site, on-going changes will make the website even more user-friendly.
Our audio player can be seen on the right.
The full medical interview would be edited down into a number of bite-sized tracks just like the one to the right. Pull down the menu, listen and learn.
Slides, PowerPoint presentations, annotations, notes and diagrams can easily be incorporated into the web-lecture, as in the box to the right.
Working with bimedia reporters means we can incorporate on-location video filming, offering live illustrations of hard-to-grasp concepts.
